CBS Eye on Veterans with Phil Briggs airs every Saturday from 5-6pm on WGAW AM 1340, 98.1 FM, and streaming to anywhere in the world.
Each week, Navy veteran and Journalist Phil Briggs looks at life from the military veteran’s perspective. From topics like treating PTSD, TBIs with marijuana and psychedelics to pushing Congress to pass better laws. Plus, we hear dramatic stories from combat vets, discover job openings, and meet celebrity actors, athletes, and musicians.
As host of “CBS Eye on Veterans” Phil is heard weekly on CBS News Radio affiliates nationwide and around the world on the Armed Forces Network. As a voice actor, he can be heard on commercials for Honda, Nissan, Taco Bell, and television shows like “Best in Food” on Travel Channel and Discovery. In 2019, he wrote and produced the AP Award-Nominated podcast “To War and Back” which shared the emotional story of three Iraq/Afghanistan veterans. Kirstie Ennis, Boone Cutler, and Scott Huesing shared their stories of; combat, coming home, addiction, suicide, and how their work today inspires veterans and civilians alike.
In the early nineties, he enlisted in the Navy where he served as a photojournalist aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74). A Stennis “plank owner,” Phil reported on fighter jets and edited the ship’s newspaper. Throughout his enlistment, he enjoyed rum and always points out he did his part to maintain “good relations” with people in ports like St. Marten, Miami, and Fort Lauderdale. After getting out of the Navy, Phil made a name for himself in rock radio, with radio shows in Providence, Salt Lake City, and the DC/Baltimore area – and interviewing bands ranging from Aerosmith to ZZ Top. He also worked as a voice actor.
